Kelly and I met probably 7 or 8 years ago through mutual friends and I always have so much fun with her! I actually met Nick when she brought him over to our friend’s house at the end of their first date! It’s so fun that I got to see them on their first date and now I’ll see this lovely couple down the aisle!

Tell us a little about each of you.
Nick owes his own green carpet cleaning and tile service, while I have been teaching 2nd grade for 8 years. We met in Dallas, where I was born and raised. Nick is a good old Corpus Christi babe. He moved here to attend UTD, while I attended Texas A&M University. We met 2 years after I graduated college. Nick and I both love to hangout with our friends and family whenever we can. We love to entertain and have dinner at our house. Recently we have been getting into cooking together, which is a great way for us to end a hectic day. Anytime we can go see a concert, we are there. Anything we can do together is always the best. We love to travel and experience new thing together. Nick loves to play golf, so on our first Valentine’s Day, he surprised me with golf clubs. I thought it was a super sweet gesture of him. I love how he wanted to include me in something that he loves.

How did you meet?
We met on 11/13/11 at Top Golf. Romantic, right? We have a mutual friend who thought it would be fun to get together. The second I saw Nick, I whispered to my friend “he is SO my type.” I didn’t know I had a type…Nick played golf in college, so I was pretty impressed with his skills right away. Nick came over to me and offered a tequila shot. I kindly declined. Not my drink of choice. We ended up laughing and making jokes for over an hour. I didn’t want to leave but had other plans to go attend a party that night. When I was leaving I asked Nick if he wanted my number. So bold of me! I don’t think I have ever been that bold before. Two minutes after leaving, he called me immediately and asked where we could meet up. I liked his confidence and the fact that he didn’t waste any time getting to know me. We ended up hanging out until 4 in the morning. I didn’t want the night to end. A week later we were on our first date on Lower Greenville. He took me to a dinner at Kirby’s and a Stars and Geographer concert at The Granada. Little I know we would have hundreds of dinner dates and concerts in our future. He is the best date I could ask for.

When and where are you getting married? What made you choose that season and venue?
Our wedding is March 11, 2017, at Avalon Legacy Ranch in McKinney, Texas. Being a teacher, that date seemed perfect because we can honeymoon during Spring Break. What’s not to love about spring? I love this venue! It’s so romantic and away from city life. I feel like it’s a good mix of our styles. I also love that it’s in McKinney, where my parents recently moved, so it seemed like a great weekend wedding location for friends and family.

Give us three words to describe your wedding
Rustic. Romantic. Personal.

Moments after Nick popped the question!

When did you know he was going to be your husband? Did he know before you?
I don’t know if there was a specific BAM moment where we knew. I knew we both felt very comfortable around each other right away and we both let our guard down quickly. We trusted each other right away. I think after being together for over 6 years, I knew and hoped it would eventually happen.

How did he put that ring on your finger? Was it a total surprise?
Nick rented out a private hot air balloon on Cinco de Mayo. I had NO clue what we were doing. I thought that we were going to go sky diving, which would have been terrifying and awesome all at the same time. It’s something that has been on my “bucket list.” For the hour long drive I kept hounding him with questions. I guess the teacher in me came out. The second we saw the hot air balloon I thought to myself “well, if it doesn’t happen now, it never will.” Who randomly rents a hot air balloon on a Thursday for no reason? I was pretty hopeful he was going to get down on one knee. Nick, myself, and Leroy (our pilot) were all there. Nick got down on one knee as we were up in the air. We ended the night at Torchy’s eating tacos, staring at my ring, and expressed how excited we were for our future together. He planned the perfect proposal. On Saturday, Nick and I went to McKinney to see my parents. Little did I know that Nick had planned the entire weekend. Knowing how important our families are to us, he wanted them to be there to celebrate with us. My entire family and his family were there waiting for us. It was one of the best surprises to celebrate with our families. We got to look at venues that weekend. It was perfect.

What have you loved most about planning your wedding? What has been the most difficult?
I have loved all the celebrations with friends and family. We had an amazing engagement fiesta, stock the bar party, bridal shower, and bachelor and bachelorette weekends. I’ve also really enjoyed ordering all the cute things off ofEtsyy and working with all the vendors. I can’t wait to see it all come together. The most difficult was probably working on the guest list and invitations. I wish I could invite everyone to my wedding.

What are you looking forward to most on your wedding day?
There are so many things I can’t wait for. I think I’m honestly most excited about seeing Nick for the first time. I hope I don’t ugly cry. I have a tendency to ugly cry at weddings. I’m sure ours will be no exception. I also can’t wait to see the beautiful vision of I Do! Floral and myself come together. I am also pretty pumped about our amazing band, The Royal Dukes. It will be a great party to celebrate with friends and family.

Do you have any advice for the newly engaged as they embark on the planning process?
Enjoy this time of planning. It can be stressful at times, but it’s also the only time that you will get to plan your wedding, so enjoy every minute of it! Don’t let the little things stress you out…oh, and Etsy. It’s the best thing since sliced bread.
